Fair, Festival, Football | Big weekend of events brings thousands to the Gate City

The Gate City will be a hotspot for all things fun bringing in thousands of people.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — With multiple large events taking place in Greensboro this weekend, it's no surprise that people are excited.

Thousands of people will make their way downtown this weekend for Folk Fest, North Carolina A&T's long anticipated game against Winston-Salem State University, and the Central Carolina Fair.

The Gate City will be a hotspot for all things fun.

"You know, we got the fair going on, we got the game tomorrow, we got the Folk Festival all weekend!" said Marlow Hinton.

Hinton graduated from North Carolina A&T in 1974 and he can’t wait for the matchup between his alma mater and WSSU.

"It's such a great rivalry, I mean, it rivals some of the greatest. So I'm looking forward to what we're gonna be able to do tomorrow and Rams… y'all always bring a great challenge but we think we're up for it," Hinton said.

He's kicking off the weekend early at Folk Fest. He's been attending the event for years. He said it definitely brings more people and money to the city.

Longtime Folk Fest volunteer, David Wright agreed.

"It brings in folks from all over the place, new money coming into town… sales tax, motel tax… it is a big boost to the local economy," Wright said.

In the past year, he's attended 11 festivals and worked at 12 but he said events in Greensboro are special to him.

"It's home! My family moved here in 1955 when I was 3-years-old," Wright said.

Both men are eager to enjoy their time, in the place they call home, all weekend.
