Vault Visit: Pickup trucks for women, by women

A survey back in the 80s showed that 11% of the people buying pick-ups were women. That was up from 5% in the 80's.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — This year, WFMY News 2 turns 75! So, to celebrate. We're opening the WFMY News 2 vault.

On this day in 2001, we were talking about pick-up trucks.

A survey back then showed that 11% of the people buying pick-ups were women.
That was up from 5% in the 80's.

Car experts said part of the reason was more women were involved in designing and engineering them.

Nissan, General Motors, and Ford each had at least one woman involved in engineering, designing, or marketing their pickups.

They said women were responsible for adding complete stereo systems, power locks, and windows, an automatic transmission, Adjustable pedals, and larger cabs.
