GREENSBORO, N.C. — This year... WFMY News 2 turns 75! So to celebrate... We're opening the WFMY News 2 vault
On June 8, 2019, the Triad experienced some flash flooding that almost cost a Gibsonville woman her life
"I was praying, and nobody was coming and I was there, and I thought, nobody is going to come down this road. So I kept praying, and I kept saying, 'God you need to hurry up,' because the water was pouring into my vehicle, it was getting higher, the dog had jumped over to the seat behind," said Sharan Varner.
Sharan Varner and her dog were driving on Huffine Mill Road in Gibsonville as the rain came down.
Varner says she backed up when she realized the water was deeper than it looked.
But it was too late... The water swept her car away.
It wound up trapped against the guardrail on a bridge
"I want to warn people if they see any kind of water, to be very cautious, because sometimes the road only looks wet, which is what it looked to me this morning, but as I got right up to it, it wasn't it just wet, it was a raging torrent that nearly took my life," said Varner.
Luckily first responders were nearby and rescued her. But she did get a ticket for reckless driving.
