CAROLINA BEACH, N.C. — The North Carolina coast gets battered with wind and rain on Monday, resulting in widespread flooding to many popular beach towns as severe weather came into the area.
Our WFMY News 2 weather team said coastal cities, including Carolina Beach, Southport, Oak Island and Bald Head Island were all hardest hit, many seeing between 10 and 20 inches of rain just in this storm alone.
Rain showers are being seen across central North Carolina and are expected to continue into tomorrow.
Governor Roy Cooper issued a statement on X about the flooding happening across the southeast side of the state.
Rain Totals
Some of the highest rain amounts seen in recent memory fell between Sunday evening and midday Monday across New Hanover and Brunswick Counties.
The National Weather Service shared more photos of flooding being seen on roads in Brunswick County.
Oak Island is also seeing lots of heavy flooding from rain.
Cape Hatteras National Seashore issued a statement urging travelers to avoid the north end of Ocracoke Island during high tide and to use caution on the beach today.
