Torrential rain turned roads into canals on Monday in the Wilmington area

CAROLINA BEACH, N.C. — The North Carolina coast gets battered with wind and rain on Monday, resulting in widespread flooding to many popular beach towns as severe weather came into the area.

Our WFMY News 2 weather team said coastal cities, including Carolina Beach, Southport, Oak Island and Bald Head Island were all hardest hit, many seeing between 10 and 20 inches of rain just in this storm alone.

Rain showers are being seen across central North Carolina and are expected to continue into tomorrow.
