GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Tanger Center in Downtown Greensboro hit a historic milestone Friday night.
The performing arts venue welcomed its one-millionth guest Tonya Withers.
She was gifted a $1,000 worth of tickets to the venue.
Withers told WFMY News 2 it's worth the trip from High Point to see the shows.
"Given an opportunity for the arts and the culture arts to be in this area. We don't have to travel to Charlotte or Raleigh or Winston. It can be right here in our own backyard," she said.
A spokesperson for Tanger told us some of there top shows raked in about $12 million in just 2-3 weeks.
The financial benefits have trickled down from the Tanger Center to the rest of downtown. Lots of other businesses are cashing in on the venue's success as well.
A nearby restaurant Bellemeade Bistro said they have gain new customers in just three months of opening.
"We saw a very large influx of people last week. A lot of them were coming from the Tanger Center," Barista Jessica Staehly said, "It's cool because it makes this place feel really alive and it's a really cool place to be."
Since the Tanger Center opened in September 2021, it has welcomed hundreds of thousands of visitors to the Triad.
A nearby restaurant just opened and said they are already feeling the impact of the Tanger Center.
Three of the biggest shows at Tanger have been Wicked, The Lion King, and Hamilton.
Experts said just those three shows have caused a 34-million-dollar economic impact.
