BURLINGTON, N.C. — Burlington police arrested a suspect in a shooting from earlier this month and also served the victim in the case a criminal summons.

It happened on the night of May 9 at the intersection of South Graham Hopedale Road and Hanover Road. Police said they found two vehicles that had crashed and inside one of the vehicles, they found 21-year-old David Bonilla-Estrada with multiple gunshot wounds. He was flown to an area hospital for treatment.

Police said they've since learned that Bonilla-Estrada used his vehicle to hit the car that another man was driving. That driver, identified as 19-year-old Adrian Matias, got out of his car and shot at Bonilla-Estrada's car multiple times.

Police said some sort of fight happened between the two before the crash and the shooting.

Matias was charged with felony shooting into occupied property resulting in serious bodily injury. The man who rammed his vehicle was served a criminal summons for assault with a deadly weapon.
