Community reacts to deadly shooting on Highway 158: 'That's tragic'

The suspects are accused of a deadly shooting and were driving a red/burgundy Dodge Charger.

DAVIE COUNTY, N.C. — Deputies are looking for a suspect vehicle tied to a shooting near a park that left a man dead and a teen injured in the Triad.

A park where hundreds of families spend time at —Truist Sports Park in Davie County. Families expect fun competition, not a crime scene.

Shots rang out near the fields on Sunday night. A person died, and the police are looking for the criminal responsible.

Investigators said 26-year-old Bryan Martinez was followed by a red or maroon Dodge Charger out of Truist Sports Park. He and his four passengers made their way down Highway 158 when he was shot and killed.

Less than a mile up the road, his car stopped in front of Tanglewood Park.

The incident sparked concern throughout the community. Many were shocked to find out the shooting took place so close to home.

Truist Sports Park is even providing extra security officers for the remainder of the week. They said they have no reason to believe something like this will happen again, but they want to play it on the safe side.

Davie County resident Susan Cain said these parks are for families.

"You know, when you think of Tanglewood Park, you think family, you think fun, you don't think destructive or tragic. So it has a bit of a negative spin, but we'll just have to do what we can to get our community back together and keep us strong," Cain said.

Martinez died from the shooting while a 17-year-old passenger was treated for gunshot wounds.

It's something fellow resident Jodi Frasure describes as a tragedy in her community.

"That's tragic, you know. It's sad that things like that are happening and people just don't value life anymore," Cain continued.

Investigators are still trying to find the owner of the red/burgundy Dodge Charger and need your help. They said the car had a spoiler on the rear trunk and a driver’s side rear window covered with what appeared to be a trash bag.
