Greensboro Police crack down on speeding along Lawndale Drive

Police said they received multiple complaints about unsafe driving on Lawndale Drive.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Greensboro Police said they've gotten several complaints of drivers going too fast down Lawndale Drive.

Since Friday, July 19, GPD has written 12 speeding citations on Lawndale.

Residents in the area say speeding has been a big problem over the years and they just want cars to slow down.

Cammy Hodge is one of those residents. She's lived in Greensboro since middle school. She currently lives off Lawndale Drive.

"It's a great area but people do speed on that road," Hodge said.

She said her main concern with all the speeding, is that someone could get injured.

"From where I live, I could see people speeding down Lawndale and down a side street. It was really fast and I know people walk out there, they go to the grocery store out there, and I was afraid somebody was gonna get hurt," Hodge said.

Other Greensboro residents, like Mike Kastanek agree that speeding in the area is a problem, but that's not all.

"Here's my problem, people that don't use turn signals, that drive inappropriate based on the weather. There's other conditions that are involved, to me the tailgating, the swerving, there are other issues that go beyond just speeding per say," Kastanek said. "I hope the officers are looking for erratic driving and other situations."

Hodge believes a heavier police presence would discourage folks from speeding down Lawndale, "I think people would be scared to speed like that if they knew the police were around."

The main number of citations written were related to speeding but there are also citations for people driving without insurance or registration according to Greensboro Police.

It's not just Lawndale GPD wants to crack down on, they want your input on any roadway that seems like a concern.

You can give them a call at their traffic complaint line at 336-373-7569 or send an email at trafficcomplaints@greensboro-nc.gov
