GREENSBORO, N.C. โ It's free to stop at stop signs, but if you don't it'll cost you up to $250 dollars!
The Greensboro Police Department launched a new initiative to get drivers to slow down and stop at stop signs.
The department said data collected from ZenCity showed traffic was the number one complaint in the community.
This is why the department came up with the '373-SLOW' hotline.
All residents have to do is call 336-373-SLOW (7569) and share concerns of problem traffic areas in the Triad.
We recently spoke with Lieutenant F.R. Banks with GPD who created the initiative.
She said the top three problems areas they hear about are let GPD to give direct attention to a traffic complaint.
"They can call '373 Slow' someone would answer it and we will ask you questions about what your concern is whether it is in your neighborhood or in your commute going to work so you give that complaint and then what we do is we jot it down take notes and document it and then depending on how many complaints are generated we will send a traffic safety unit over to that location," Lt. Banks said.
Lieutenant Banks said some of the other top problems areas in Greensboro are Battleground Avenue and Lawndale Drive.
Here's how the traffic data will help the department.
"That information is collected and then depending on the information we get it prioritizes so if we get 50 complaints in this areas like here off Florida St. and Lincoln St. then that gives us enough information to know hey I need to send resources here so that we can figure out what the complaint is and what is going on," Lt. Banks said.
The department said their phones have already been ringing with callers. Remember, you can call the hotline at 336-373-SLOW (7569).
