RALEIGH, N.C. — The North Carolina Department of Transportation  announced Friday that the NC Governor's Highway Safety Program (NCGHSP), the Raleigh Police Department and NC State Highway Patrol are launching a campaign to crack down on speeding.

"Speed Wrecks Lives" will feature "enhanced patrols" in all100 counties from July 22-July 26, according to a release. The campaign was created in an effort to reduce speeding and prevent car accidents.

"With an increase in highway speed racing and reckless driving, N.C. officials want to remind everyone about the dangers of speeding. The posted speed limit is not a suggestion; it is the law. Speeding accounts for one-quarter of all traffic-related fatalities nationwide," said the release.

The campaign will officially kick-off with a press conference featuring the NCGHSP director and the Raleigh Police Department deputy on Monday morning.
