GREENSBORO, N.C. — There were seven seconds of chaos as bullets were flying at a business on Battleground Avenue in Greensboro early Saturday morning.
People ran for cover, as shots were fired outside of the nightclub, Electric Tequila.
Two people were hurt.
Police responded to the business more than 45 times this year.
WFMY News 2's Giselle Thomas talked to nearby business owners, who say they're fed up.
On the front door of Electric Tequila, there's now a sign stating the landlord has taken possession of the premises.
This comes after dozens of gunshots rang out early Saturday morning.
You can see a wood board covering glass where a bullet went through 'McKinney Sew and Vac' over the weekend.
It happened after a shooting outside their storefront neighbor, Electric Tequila.
The McKinney Sew and Vac shop manager Blake McKinney said he also found bullet fragments on the floor.
"My employee and I found a bullet, McKinney shared. "I saw where a piece of the wall had come off. I found it as I started to look around."
For over 40 years, McKinney Sew and Vac has been in its storefront on Battleground Avenue. The manager said Electric Tequila has been its neighbor for 16 months. In that short time, McKinney said he's spent thousands on damages in front of his store.
"We close on Sunday," he said. "I come back on Monday and it's just like alright, what catastrophe am I going to come to today? You're not really covered for gunshots, and you're not really covered for a tequila bottle being thrown through your window."
McKinney said unused ammunition, broken glass, and drugs are just a few of the many things he's found in and around his storefront —forcing him to do things he normally wouldn't.
"I was very fortunate that you know both my parents weren't here because this is a family-owned business, McKinney said. "I work with my mother and father, and I was glad that we weren't here because I can only imagine what that would've been like in the moment."
The City of Greensboro filed a civil nuisance abatement lawsuit which could require Electric Tequila to close.
We also learned from March to November of 2023 a records request from the city of Greensboro showed that GPD responded to 46 911 calls to Electric Tequila.
Greensboro police said it is working with the ALE regarding criminal charges against the owner as the result of Saturday's incident. ALE is the lead agency and arresting agency for this part of the process.
GPD said as far as the shooting itself, it's still under investigation and no arrests have been made.
