GREENSBORO, N.C. — Greensboro police are investigating a shooting that happened outside a nightclub along Battleground Avenue early Saturday morning.
In a surveillance video sent to WFMY News 2, you can hear dozens of gunshots.
The timestamp on the video was around 1:30 a.m.
In the video, you can hear two separate rounds of gunfire. You can also see several people running from the area and lying down on the ground.
Greensboro Mayor Nancy Vaughan happened to be on a ride-along with police when the shooting happened.
According to Mayor Vaughan, two people were shot in the leg but are expected to be OK.
No one else was injured.
"What's really amazing is the number of shell casings that were out in the parking lot. One of the officers on the scene said he had been a GPD officer for 20 years and he had never seen so many bullet casings in one place," said Mayor Vaughan.
Mayor Vaughan said the shooting took place outside of Electric Tequila.
Neighboring businesses said this is not the first incident to happen at the business, but nothing has been this violent.
“Everyone that works there hasn’t been anything other than nice to me, in just kind of walking in passing, but at the end of the day, I don’t care how nice you are. I care that your business is bringing gunshots right outside of my business," said Israel Allen, co-owner of Gate City Growlers. "It’s one of these things where I go, what are you going to do about this?”
Mayor Vaughan said Electric Tequila has a record of being a nuisance business and feels it needs to be closed.
The City of Greensboro has filed a civil nuisance abatement lawsuit against the business which could require the business to close.
"They owe it to their patrons, and they owe it to their neighbors to operate in a safe manner. And they are not good neighbors at this point, and they should be grateful that nobody was killed last night," said Mayor Vaughan.
We did attempt to contact the owners of Electric Tequila for comment on the incident. The owners were not at the business when we stopped by Saturday afternoon and their phone has been disconnected.
Greensboro Police has not responded to our repeated requests for additional information, including if they have identified a suspect.
