Missing Davie County couple found dead

Investigators said Cynthia and Greg Gobble went missing under "odd circumstances." Their bodies were found Friday in a wooded area.

DAVIE COUNTY, N.C. — For the latest, head to this story: Deputies say husband shot wife, then himself

Investigators found the bodies of a missing Davie County husband and wife on Friday.

The Davie County Sheriff's Office said Cynthia and Greg Gobble were found dead in a wooded area just outside of Iredell County.

This comes after an Ashanti Alert was issued Thursday for Cynthia. Her husband Greg was identified as a "person of interest" in her disappearance. The NC Center for Missing Persons says an Ashanti Alert is issued when there is "evidence of physical endangerment, abduction, or kidnapping."

The couple is married but separated. Deputies said they were reported missing Wednesday night under "odd circumstances." Family members said their last known location was at Cynthia's home in Mocksville. Detectives found Cynthia's purse, wallet, and insulin left behind. Their phones had also been turned off and Cynthia's social media had gone cold. No one could reach them.

Detectives have not said how they died. They do not believe any other persons are involved in the incident and there is no threat to the public.

A vigil is being held at Ijames Baptist Church in Mocksville Friday evening, where the couple attended.

What is an Ashanti Alert?

You may be familiar with an 'Amber Alert' or 'Silver Alert,' but what is an 'Ashanti Alert'?

An Ashanti Alert is used when investigators think an adult who doesn't fall under an Amber or Silver Alert has been abducted or kidnapped.

This is for anyone between the ages of 18 and 64.

The alert is named after Ashanti Billie who was abducted and killed in 2017.

Billie was abducted from JEB Little Creek, only to be found murdered in North Carolina. She was 19 years old at the time of her abduction; too old for an Amber Alert, and too young for a Silver Alert. Her parents thought an alert could have helped save their daughter's life.
