DAVIE COUNTY, N.C. — NEW: Investigators said they found the bodies of Cynthia and Greg Gobble in a wooded area just outside of Iredell County on Friday. Here's the latest.
The Davie County Sheriff's Office is asking for help finding a missing woman and her husband. Chief Brian Jacobs said Cynthia and Greg Gobble disappeared under "odd circumstances" and both of their phones have been cut off.
The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons issued an Ashanti Alert for 60-year-old Cynthia Gobble, saying there is "evidence of physical endangerment, abduction, or kidnapping."
Her husband, 59-year-old Gregory, is a "person of interest" in the case, according to the sheriff's office.
Deputies said the couple is married but separated.
They were reported missing on Wednesday, May 29 shortly before 10 p.m. Investigators said they were last known to be at a home on Country Lane in Mocksville. Deputies found Cynthia's purse, wallet, and insulin at the home.
Investigators think they could be traveling in Greg's vehicle - a white 1997 Ford F-250 with NC license plate number YV1974. They thought the couple might have gone to their lake house on High Rock Lake in Davidson County, but they searched it and found nothing.
Cynthia was last seen wearing a pink short-sleeved shirt that says "Colorado," blue jean shorts, and brown Birkenstock sandals.
Greg was last seen wearing a white tee shirt and tan/khaki pants. Investigators said he sometimes wears a baseball cap, possibly with "Colorado" on the front of it, and sunglasses.
The sheriff's office said it is concerned about the well-being of both Cynthia and Greg. However, at this time, an Ashanti Alert has only been issued for Cynthia. The sheriff's office also said Cynthia is diabetic and does not have her medication with her.
WFMY News 2 asked Captain DJ Smith if the sheriff's office has responded to any calls about the couple in the past, but he could not tell us anything. He said he's been fielding multiple calls about this case.
WFMY News 2's Nixon Norman went out to the Davie County Courthouse in order to see if either Cynthia or Gregory had any previous charges.
According to court documents, Cynthia's record is clear but Gregory faced a simple assault charge and communicating threats charge in 2004.
If you have any information on the couple's whereabouts, call Captain DJ Smith at the Davie County Sheriff's Office at (336) 399-1706.
Editor's note: The NC Center of Missing Persons lists Greg as a suspect in this missing persons case. We called Captain Smith and asked about this, and he said they are referring to Greg as a "person of interest."
What is an Ashanti Alert?
You may be familiar with an 'Amber Alert' or 'Silver Alert,' but what is an 'Ashanti Alert'?
An Ashanti Alert is used when investigators think an adult who doesn't fall under an Amber or Silver Alert has been abducted or kidnapped.
This is for anyone between the ages of 18 and 64.
The alert is named after Ashanti Billie who was abducted and killed in 2017.
Billie was abducted from JEB Little Creek, only to be found murdered in North Carolina. She was 19 years old at the time of her abduction; too old for an Amber Alert, and too young for a Silver Alert. Her parents thought an alert could have helped save their daughter's life.
