Support pours in for Randolph County 10-year-old burned in house fire

An Asheboro community has been rallying ever since in support of Chevy Burroughs after he suffered from 2nd and 3rd-degree burns.

ASHEBORO, N.C. — Chevy Burroughs underwent a second surgery on Thursday for his back, legs, and chest after his father saved him from a fire.

Over a thousand people are now following the #CHEVYSTRONG Facebook page created by Chevy Burroughs older sister, Kurstin Burroughs.

This comes after his father Kevin Burroughs ripped through a wall in their family home as it was burning, all to rescue his 10-year-old son Chevy. He was then airlifted to Brenner Children's Hospital where he went through two surgeries and is in critical condition.

That's why several businesses, like Red Zone Sports Bar and Grill in Randleman are stepping in to support the family.

"When I heard about this happening, I mean, it's devastating… and then on top of everything else that's been going on here," Bar Manager of Red Zone, Laurra Simpson said.

Simpson has been friends with Chevy's older sister Kurstin for years now, Kurstin even worked at Red Zone before an SUV ran through the bar and grill's building last month.

Although the folks at Red Zone are currently navigating a tragedy of their own, they find it important to help the Burroughs through this extremely difficult time.

"At Red Zone, we're a family, and family helps family, and Kurstin's family is our family too and we think so much of them also," Simpson said.

But they aren't the only ones standing in support of Chevy, the 10-year-old attended Southmont Elementary School in Asheboro, the school recently posted this photo of the Beta Club sending love to Chevy.

Southmont Elementary School's Facebook post said:

"Our SMES Beta Club met today to create care packages for one of our own and his family after losing their home to a fire. We love you, Chevy!"

Simpson said seeing this type of support from the community speaks volumes to the kind of people the Burroughs are, "there are really good people still in this world, and it also makes me see what great people Kevin, Shauna, Chevy, Cam and Kurstin all are because everybody wants to help them."

Proving that even through tragedy, it's important to stick together.

Several other businesses in the Asheboro area, alongside Red Zone are also collecting donations for the Burroughs, places like Eclipse Salon, Zeko's Pizzeria, and Coach's Neighborhood Grill are showing their support.
