ASHEBORO, N.C. — A community is coming together to support the Burroughs family after they lost everything in a fire in Asheboro on Dec. 8.
Chevy, 10, was sent to the hospital with 2nd and 3rd-degree burns from head to toe.
The fire started in the back of the family's home. Kevin and Shauna Burroughs, along with their 15-year-old daughter Kamdyn woke up to their son Chevy screaming from his room.
"My brother (Kevin Burroughs) was trying to crawl down the hall. He has burns on his hands and knees and the top of his feet from trying to crawl down the hall. He couldn't get to him that way, so he had to come out to where we are now and bang a hole through the wall," said Ken Burroughs, the brother of Kevin Burroughs.
Family friend, Wally Wilson said Kevin knocked through many layers to get to his son from outside the home.
"Went through vinyl, siding, plywood, studs, sheetrock, everything, and the hole he knocked was right there where Chevy was and pulled his boy out. The mother (Shauna) actually knocked the window out. That's actually right here behind me, to pull their 15-year-old daughter out the window," Wilson explained.
Chevy, wasn't breathing so his dad performed CPR until he was revived.
The 10-year-old was flown to Brenner Children's Hospital in Winston-Salem.
After being on a ventilator for the last few days, Chevy received his first surgery Tuesday morning as the family weighs heavily on community support and their faith to get them through this traumatic time.
"God works in a storm and this is definitely a storm in their life for them to get through this. It's going to take a lot of prayer, a lot of help, and people supporting them and so far it's been awesome," Ken Burroughs said.
Family and friends said Chevy enjoys sports and video games and loves his family to pieces.
The road to recovery for Chevy is going to be long and hard.
At this time we do not know what started the fire but were told the family had no health insurance, and now they have no home.
Kevin Burroughs is described as a dad who loves his family. Friends said Kevin has a big heart and is always willing to help someone in need. Family friends said Kevin did receive severe burns to his hands and knees because of the fire.
His wife, Shauna Burroughs is described as being a devoted mother, always there for her family.
Their 15-year-old daughter, Kamdyn is said to be quiet but loves her friends. Friends said she did receive cuts climbing out the window but is recovering well.
The family is staying at the hospital with Chevy for the time being.
As for Chevy, we were told that he is alert enough to ask about his cat, "Nubs" which was spotted near the home Tuesday morning.
A Facebook page was created to update the community on Chevy’s recovery.

Boy size 10 slim pants size 10 shirt, and size 3 youth in shoes.
Women size 8 in pants medium to large in tops, and 8 in shoes.
Men xl shirts 34/34 pants and 10 1/2 shoe size.
