Report finds potential violations with Triad school district

A group of lawmakers found that the district overspent by over $4 million in the 2022-2023 school year.
The district will cut seven positions, including part-time guidance staff and classified workers.

ALAMANCE COUNTY, N.C. — A state report found the Alamance-Burlington School System (ABSS) broke state law.

A group of lawmakers found that the district overspent by over $4 million in the 2022-2023 school year.

State law prohibits districts from spending money that wasn't appropriated to it.

The lawmakers started looking into ABSS this year as the district reeled from a giant mold cleanup job last year and faced serious money challenges.

Lawmakers said there could have been other violations, and they're looking into it.

It is unclear what penalties the district faces if they broke the state law.
