Alamance-Burlington School employees wake up to missing paychecks amid bank glitch

The school district said it was due to a technical glitch at the bank.

ALAMANCE COUNTY, N.C. — Alamance Burlington School employees woke up to no paychecks this morning.

The school district said it was due to a technical glitch at the bank.

The district uses Atlantic Union Bank, which underwent a merger with American National Bank and Trust company on May 28th.

Atlantic Union Bank and ABSS have shared a joint statement:

"We have confirmed that all Alamance-Burlington school system employees will be paid today. Also, Atlantic Union Bank will reimburse any late fees employees may incur. The Alamance-Burlington school system did effectively fund the $9.8 Million payroll, and Atlantic Union Bank processed the payroll as instructed. However, the school system's payroll did not post at midnight as the employees expected. Both organizations are committed to working together to resolve this matter."

It''s not just employees from the district experiencing the issues.

People who use the bank expressed their concerns to WFMY and on social media about having issues with deposits not in their accounts and being locked out of their accounts.

After asking the bank about the impact, the Atlantic Union Bank President and Chief Operating Officer Maria Tedesco said:

"Earlier today Atlantic Union Bank experienced a delay in processing some customer deposits, including some that had broader payroll impacts. We have since resolved those issues and expect all deposits to process today. Every case is different, but it is our intent to cover any fees incurred as a direct result of this impact. We fully acknowledge the added stress this may have caused our customers and their employees, and for that, we sincerely apologize."

It is not clear if they will be paying for overdrafts and late fees for all customers or just school district employees for ABSS.

After hearing from some school employees, they said it is difficult as they are paid monthly and a lot of bills are due on the first.

At this point, employees were told their money would be in their accounts by 5 pm. The district said by 4:00 pm, employees began receiving their payroll into their accounts.
