ALAMANCE COUNTY, N.C. — There are mixed reactions to the resignation of Alamance-Burlington School System's Superintendent, Dr. Dain Butler.
You might think it would be cause for concern, but some parents say it's a relief.
"I emailed the school board last weekend and said you know, I am in support of termination of his contract because it's just been mismanagement, after mismanagement, after mismanagement," Parent of an ABSS 6th grader, Jill Gerringer said.
WFMY News 2's Nixon Norman met two ABSS moms who both have six grade students, one whose student attends school virtually, the other student goes in-person.
They both say lack of transparency and communication are the main reasons some parents felt like they couldn't trust Dr. Butler.
"There have been events that have been creating the mistrust between the community and ABSS and I believe this step was a step in the right direction to fix that mistrust that has been going on," Parent of an ABSS 6th grader, Holly Schwabrow said.
Some parents said they didn't like how the mold situation was handled, which delayed the start of the school year.
They also said they weren't happy with the abrupt closure of Alamance Virtual School, a decision that's since been reversed.
"I think that that was very poorly carried out, in that it was presented as "this is happening" and "this is the option" not "this is a option" Gerringer said.
Moving forward, some parents said: they want more respect and understanding.
Although the Superintendent Butler resigned, he'll still get a severance payment of at least 100 thousand dollars. The school board named Chief Student Services Officer, Dr. Kristy Davis, as acting superintendent.
