ALAMANCE COUNTY, N.C. — A high-ranking school official was charged in connection to a sex crime investigators said he failed to report at an elementary school in Alamance County, officials said.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (NCSBI) is investigating Deputy Superintendent Lowell Rogers and his involvement in failing to report a crime that involved a juvenile at Eastlawn Elementary.
You might remember the story about Eastlawn Elementary Principal Daniel McInnis, 43, who was charged for allegedly being involved in misconduct with a 9-year-old on school property. Investigators said Rogers failed to report the incident involving McInnis.
ABSS said McInnis is still suspended without pay.
The Burlington Police Department reached out to NCSBI, who charged Rogers with a misdemeanor.
"On 12/21/23, the SBI received a request from the Burlington Police Department to investigate an allegation of failure to report involving an incident at Eastlawn Elementary School, part of the Alamance-Burlington School System (ABSS). On Feb. 19, 2024, Lowell Rogers, the Deputy Superintendent for ABSS, was served with a criminal summons for failure to report (misdemeanor) alleged abuse to law enforcement. No further information is available at this time.”
Rogers was suspended with pay after Superintendent Dr. Dain Butler recently appointed him interim CFO.
Dr. Butler also recommended that McInnis be dismissed —it just hasn't happened yet.
