DURHAM, N.C. — More than two dozen students and a driver escaped after a school bus caught on fire in Durham Friday, according to CBS affiliate WNCN.
Rescue crews responded to the scene around 2 p.m., when they arrived at the intersection of American Drive and White Pine Drive, they found a Durham County Public School Bus covered in massive flames and heavy smoke.
Officials said 28 students and a driver were able to safely evacuate unharmed. The school district said the bus was coming from Brogden Middle School.
The bus driver noticed smoke coming from the bus when flames began forming underneath the front of the bus, according to a DPS transportation director.

Eleven firefighters responded to the scene and had the fire under control in 15 minutes.
The school district said the bus was destroyed by the fire and all students were accounted for and taken care of.
The county fire marshal was contacted and this investigation is ongoing.
No one was injured.
