RANDOLPH COUNTY, N.C. — A student was found with a gun at a school in Randolph County Friday, deputies said.
The Randolph County Sheriff's Office said the school resource officer at Eastern Randolph High School received a report that a student had a gun on campus.
The school resource officer found the student and a search of the student led to the officer confiscating the gun.
Deputies said the gun was unloaded.
The principal shared the following message with parents:
"Good morning, Eastern Randolph High School parents, this is Principal Susan Chappell. I am calling to make you aware of a development this morning in which there was a potential safety concern involving one of our students who was in possession of a firearm on our school’s campus. Upon learning of the student’s possession of this item, the school’s administration worked quickly with law enforcement to confiscate the item, address the situation, and maintain the safety of our students and staff members. As noted, law enforcement has been working with the school’s administration on this situation. Please know the safety of our students and staff members remains our top priority at all times. Thank you and have a good day."
The investigation is ongoing.
