DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. — The Davidson County Sheriff’s Office said a student went to the hospital after having a reaction to a THC vape pen on Wednesday.
This all started shortly before 11 a.m. on Valentine’s Day at Central Davidson Middle School. The school’s SRO was called to a child who was sick, throwing up, and sweating.
“The first thing on my mind was the safety of the students,” SRO James Williams said. It’s his first year at the school.
Other kids came forward saying they either used the vape or were also feeling nauseous.
The Davidson County Sheriff's Office learned three Central Davidson Middle School students shared the vape pen - one of them went to the hospital but has since been released.
Four other students reported feeling anxious after eating gummies they thought had THC in them. The sheriff’s office said the gummies did not have THC.
Sheriff Richie Simmons said the student who brought the vape pen was charged, and a juvenile petition has been filed.
“We want kids to know the dangers. They don’t know what’s in these devices” Simmons said.
The SRO brought a K9 officer to the school to make sure no other smoking items or drugs were brought into the school.
