Woodforest National Bank robbed, Charlotte man arrested, Winston-Salem police say

Police said a Charlotte man was arrested for a bank robbery at Woodforest National Bank in Walmart on Parkway Village Circle in Winston-Salem.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A Charlotte man was arrested in connection to a Woodforest National Bank robbery inside a Walmart in Winston-Salem Thursday, according to police. 

Winston-Salem police officers said it happened at the Walmart on 3475 Parkway Village Circle around 2:30 p.m.

A bank employee said they saw a man walk up to the bank teller, demanding they give him all of the money in the register or he'd shoot them. When one of the cash drawers opened, the suspect ran with an unknown amount of cash, police said.

A police officer saw a person matching the suspect's description in a nearby neighborhood, where they detained him.

Investigators said they charged 49-year-old Ray Anthony Brooks with common law robbery.

Brooks was given a $50,000 secured bond. His first appearance is scheduled for March 8, 2024. Mr. 

Brooks was turned over to Forsyth County's custody, and his first appearance is set for March 8.
