12-year-old girls say they were chased by man in Asheboro, police confirm

Police say they responded to an attempted breaking and entering call on English St. that happened around 6:21 a.m. Friday morning.

ASHEBORO, N.C. — The grandmother of one of the girls who was allegedly chased told WFMY, "he was trying to get into the house."

She said her granddaughter, who is 12 years old, along with her friend when a man chased them into the home. 

The two female juveniles told Asheboro police a "large" man chased them to a nearby family member's home and tried to get inside.

Police said they went out to an attempted breaking and entering call on English St. that happened around 6:21 a.m. Friday morning. 

The two young females told police they were walking in the area when they saw a man riding by, the man started a conversation with them and asked, "If they should be in school."

The juveniles told police they saw a gun in the man's car, so they left towards English St. 

The two juveniles told officers the man then got out of his car and chased them to a nearby family member's home. 

They were able to get inside and lock the doors. They said the man tried to open the front and side door before leaving the scene. Police said this information was confirmed by the family members at the home. 

One of the girl's grandmothers said she kept yelling to the man, "Who is it," and he never responded. She told WFMY she was scared he would come back. 

Officers are looking for the suspect, they described him as a black man with shorter hair, wearing a black T-shirt with a design on it and black shorts. He could have been driving a white, tan, or crème-colored passenger car with tinted windows, possibly a Honda or Toyota.
