Debby floods out an Alamance County park prompting voluntary evacuations

Red Slide Park sits on the banks of the Haw River, the playground is covered in water.

ALAMANCE COUNTY, N.C. — Alamance County is still feeling the effects of Debby passing through.

Throughout parts of Alamance County, water from the Haw River is spilling over into intro streets, parks, and out of culverts.

In the town of Haw River, Red Slide Park's playground is underwater.

Haw River Assistant Police Chief Brian Phillips said the city greenlighted a voluntary evacuation to protect residents from potential flooding dangers.

The Haw River's water levels was projected to raise up to around 30ft.

WFMY News 2 met a man who canoes regularly in the Haw River. Ralph Osbakken said this is the highest he's ever seen it and is concerned about its speed.

"I'm pushing downstream with the river so I really wouldn't have to paddle very much. I have to wait for it to come down," he shared.

Currently, the Haw River is closed.

The Red Cross said it one of the areas throughout the triad area it is keeping an eye on.

So far the non-profit said they have not gotten any calls for help in the Triad.
