Live updates: Debby conditions across the Carolinas

Water rescue teams have been activated across southeastern North Carolina.

NORTH CAROLINA, USA — WFMY News 2 is tracking Tropical Storm Debby conditions along the Carolina coast and right here in the Piedmont Triad. We'll share the latest forecasts, road conditions, outages, and more right here. 

NEED TO KNOW: 

  • A State of Emergency is in effect for North Carolina, much of the state is under a flood watch now through Friday.
  • Debby is off the SC coast and could make another landfall near Myrtle Beach, SC into the overnight/into Thursday morning.
  • Weather Impact Alert Days have been issued for the Greensboro area for Thursday and half a day for Friday.

4:55 - The rare high risk of flash flooding has been expanded to cover most of the Triad area for Thursday.

4:30 p.m. - 2" per hour rotating into the Wilmington area.

2:21 p.m. - With the center of Debby coming a bit farther west into the Piedmont on Thursday, there will be a low chance of a brief tornado for areas east of Greensboro.

214 p.m. - Watch as Debby spins over Georgia and the Carolinas Tuesday into Wednesday.

2:10 p.m. - Possible tornado in the North Topsail Beach part of Pender County, NC. 

12 p.m. -- Charlotte Motor Speedway is opening its campgrounds now for evacuees seeking refuge from Tropical Storm Debby. Evacuees are asked to check in at the Camping World Racing Resort office at 6600 Bruton Smith Blvd, Concord, NC. Call 704-455-4445 for more information. 

11 a.m. -- Gov. Roy Cooper and state emergency officials shared an update on preparations for Debby. Several water rescue teams have been activated across southeastern North Carolina. Watch the full press conference here.

9 a.m. -- Tropical Storm Debby is off the South Carolina coast, and dry air is soaking up the rain. It's expected to make another landfall possibly near Myrtle Beach around 2 a.m. Thursday. The Greensboro area is still expecting about 3-5 inches of rain from the storm come Thursday and Friday.
