GREENSBORO, N.C. — Cold air is here, but the worst of it will be coming for us on Friday morning. Our mild fall has kept us above freezing so far throughout the entire season. That's unusual. For the first time this season, we have freezing temperatures in the forecast!
Normally, our first freeze is around October 29th. This year, we're way behind average with no freeze as of November 21st (over three weeks late)! However, it doesn't look like we will beat out the latest freeze on record which was December 1st, 2009.
First Freeze Of The Season
A cold front sweeping through Wednesday night has brought much cooler air to the area; the coldest air we've seen so far. Temperatures are forecast to plummet into upper 20s and lower 30s Friday morning across the Triad. Brrrrr!!! Go ahead and take those necessary steps to protect sensitive outdoor plants and pipes!
Feels-like temperatures will be in the mid to upper 20s throughout Friday morning. Even in the afternoon, temperatures will feel like the 30s. Make sure you have you winter gear ready to go!
Temperatures will likely struggle in the 40s in the afternoon to nearing 50 at best despite plenty of sunshine returning to the area.
First Snow Of The Season: NC Mountains
Parts of Western NC will also see their first snow of the season starting Thursday and continuing into the day Friday. 1-2" is expected in lower elevations, 2-4" on ridgetops + some locations seeing more. Winds will gust as high as 50 mph! Stay warm, friends!
