LAKE LURE, N.C. — A piece of the beloved original Rainbow Bridge has been found!

The Lake Lure Flowering Bridge posted an update on its Facebook page and said that a portion of the Rainbow Bridge had been retrieved from a nearby lake. Becky Melton with the organization says it expects to use the found portion of the bridge that honors pets in the future but it's too early to say at what capacity. Right now, it's not possible to rebuild any of the gardens because the area is not safe and covered in sand and debris.

The Pollinator, Swing, and River’s Edge Dog gardens near the bridge did not survive Hurricane Helene and were washed away from the storm’s floodwaters.

“We grieve their loss and love remembering their beauty. We continue to be in a recovery phase and cannot accept outside volunteer help, garden art, or plant donations at this time,” Lake Lure Flowering Bridge said in an online statement.

After the original Rainbow Bridge was washed away by Helene, a man who goes by Papa Scrap and his wife dropped off a temporary new Rainbow Bridge in Lake Lure on Oct. 17.

The bridge is a temporary addition and can be found at the Parks, Recreation, and Lake building in Lake Lure. The temporary bridge is not affiliated with or sponsored by the Lake Lure Flowering Bridge.
