102 people are dead after Helene hits North Carolina

The majority of the deaths have come out of Buncombe County.

NORTH CAROLINA, USA — The death toll has risen again after the devastation of Hurricane Helene.

As of Nov. 6, 102 North Carolinians were killed by Helene, according to Charlotte CBS affiliate WBTV.

The majority of the deaths have come out of Buncombe County, with the latest count coming in at 43.

The most common cause of death has been drowning, according to WBTV.

As recovery efforts continue, state emergency representatives told WFMY News 2  that less than 20 people are still missing in the wake of the storm.
