BOONE, N.C. — Officials at Appalachian State University gave updates Wednesday on when the campus might return to normal operations following the destruction caused by Helene late last week.
For students on both the Boone and Hickory campuses, classes will not meet until after Tuesday, Oct. 15. The university will remain closed through 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11.
Residence halls, dining facilities and campus medical facilities remain operational right now, according to the university.
Later on Wednesday, Appalachian State Director of Athletics Doug Gillin posted a message giving updates on the athletic schedule.
He said that all student-athletes and athletics staff have been accounted for since the storm hit campus. Fall sport teams have "sporadically resumed practice and competition," though schedules have been altered as needed to accomodate for practice or play away from Boone or to reschedule home events for later dates.
The Appalachian State football team is on the road at Marshall this weekend. The Mountaineers don't have a scheduled home game until their homecoming game against Georgia State on Oct. 26.
