RAMSEUR, N.C. — A Ramseur police officer is facing a charge after the North Carolina State Highway Patrol said he ran a red light and crashed into a teen driver on Thursday, Feb. 22.
Troopers said Officer Brandon Michael Schultheis was driving his marked patrol car when he failed to stop at a traffic signal on US-64 at NC-49 and hit a Chevrolet Cruze traveling north through the intersection.
The officer had minor injuries.
The teen was not hurt.
After an investigation and consulting with the Randolph County District Attorney’s Office, investigators charged Officer Schultheis with failure to stop for a steady red light.
Westbound lanes of US-64 at NC-49 were closed briefly during the investigation.
