GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. — A person has died a day after a crash on NC-61 in Guilford County Sunday, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Troopers said they were called to the scene of a crash at the intersection of Howerton Road around 11:15 a.m.

Investigators said 79-year-old Randel Dan Clark, of Bluff City, TN, was driving a 2018 Chevrolet west on Howerton Road and stopped at the intersection of NC-61. John Tyler Justice, 34, of Gibsonville, drove a 2009 Chevrolet north on NC-61. Clark failed to yield, pulled onto NC-61, and struck Justice in the intersection.

Troopers said Justice suffered a minor injury and was taken to a local hospital.

Clark and a front seat passenger in his vehicle, Carol Sue Wood, 76, of Bristol, TN, suffered serious life-threatening injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital, troopers said.

The State Highway Patrol said Clark died a day later.

NC-61 at Howerton Road was closed for approximately two hours during the investigation.

Troopers cleared the scene at 1:04 p.m.
