GREENSBORO, N.C. — We had to wait 14 years for the revival of the rivalry between the North Carolina A&T football team and Winston-Salem State.
And wow, was it worth the wait.
Playing in front of their home crowd, the Aggies fought back from a late deficit to tie the game as time expired on a 31-yard field goal by Andrew Brown. They then scored on a 16-yard run by Wesley Graves in overtime before their defense forced a turnover on downs to end the game.
Winston-Salem State took a 20-17 lead with 3:52 to go on a 3-yard run by Daylin Lee. The Rams managed just 287 yards of offense compared to 408 yards for A&T. The Aggies racked up 234 rushing yards as a team, led by Graves' 106 yards on 26 carries.
NC A&T quarterback Kevin White completed 21-of-32 passes for 174 yards, one touchdown pass, one interception and one rushing touchdown. The touchdown pass was caught by Laquan Veney.
With the win, the Aggies move to 1-1 on the season. NC A&T will take on Delaware at home this upcoming Saturday.
The Rams are also 1-1 and return to action Saturday at home against Ohio Dominican University.
