NEWLAND, N.C. — A tree from Cartner’s Christmas Tree Farm in Newland will be presented at the White House next Monday, Nov. 25.
The 20-foot tall tree is much more than a Fraser fir. It stands as a symbol of hope and resilience for western North Carolina after Hurricane Helene.
Cartner’s Christmas Tree Farm lost about 6,000 trees from the storm, according to a report from WBTV.
Floodwaters washed out roads across the region and several farms experienced mudslides. According to the Associated Press, the largest challenge for Christmas tree farmers across western North Carolina after Hurricane Helene is fixing infrastructure, such as roads, on their property.
The Christmas tree farm is one of many still recovering from Helene but is finding strength in the joy the official White House Christmas Tree will bring to the nation this holiday season.
First Lady Jill Biden will be presented with the tree and is expected to be joined by military-connected families for the event, according to The White House. The tree will be set up in the Blue Room as the White House will soon be adorned with festive lights and holiday decorations.
