NEWLAND, N.C. — The official White House Christmas Tree for 2024 was harvested Wednesday at the Cartner's Christmas Tree Farm in Newland.
Cartner's earned the honor after being named Grand Champion at the 2024 National Christmas Tree Contest. White House staff picked out a 25-year-old Fraser fir that stands 20 feet tall and weighs approximately 400-500 pounds.
As part of the harvesting process, the tree was cut and lifted by a crane. It then took nine men to load it by hand into a tractor-trailer.
According to the North Carolina Christmas Tree Association, the tree — named "Tremendous" by the Cartner family — is the 16th Fraser fir Christmas tree from North Carolina to be displayed at the White House.
The tree will be set up in its traditional location of the Blue Room. The tree will be presented to First Lady Jill Biden on November 25.
