GREENSBORO, N.C. — Greensboro native Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson announced Thursday he will be running for governor of North Carolina in 2024.
However, Robinson refuses to participate in a debate with his primary opponents, according to CBS affiliate WNCN. Earlier this week, Robinson was in Florida with former President Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago where Trump applauded Robinson’s speeches and described him as “better than Martin Luther King.
Robinson, who is the first Black Lieutenant Governor of North Carolina, has been a constant supporter of Trump.
In the GOP field of the gubernatorial primary, polling shows that Robinson is a top choice. A recent poll by East Carolina University showed 34% of likely primary voters choosing him. Attorney Bill Graham was at 8%, Folwell was at 7%, and former state Sen. Andy Wells was at 3%. Meanwhile, 49% of voters said they were undecided.
