GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. — Guilford County congresswoman Kathy Manning said Thursday she will not run for reelection under new voting maps.
A group filed a lawsuit earlier this week, trying to block the maps from taking effect.
If the maps are overturned, Manning said she will reconsider running.
In a statement, she said, "The egregiously gerrymandered maps do not make this race competitive, and I cannot in good conscience ask people to invest their time, resources, and efforts in a campaign that is rigged against us."
In the new congressional map, Guilford County is split into three districts. Republicans have defended the new maps, saying they followed all legal guidelines.
