GREENSBORO, N.C. — When you're standing in line waiting to vote you can take all the selfies you want, but there's one thing you're not allowed to take a picture of.

"You can't take a picture of your ballot, that's against NC law, it is illegal to take a picture of your ballot. But you can get yourself in the booth, your I voted sticker, you can do a lot of things, just not the ballot," said Charlie Collicutt, Guilford County Board of Elections Director.

The North Carolina State Board of Elections office explains on the website:

Photographing a marked ballot is illegal in part because such photographs could be used as proof of a vote for a candidate in a vote-buying scheme.

And while you're in the voting booth, talking or texting is off-limits. No electronic communication is allowed.

Now, what if you want to bring your phone in so you can remember the notes you made about certain races? Sure, that's allowed. The website confirms it.

Voters may bring voting guides, notes, and other materials into the voting booth.

Early voting continues every day through Saturday, November 2, 2024. You can register and vote on the same day during Early Voting.
