Several more republicans voted in NC primary governor's race, Stein reacts

A significant number of Republicans voted in the primary for NC governor compared to Democrats. Stein reacts.

NORTH CAROLINA, USA — When looking deeper into election results, it's clear that a significant number of Republicans voted in the governor's race during Tuesday's primary election when compared to Democratic turnout.

The results show Lt. Governor Mark Robinson (R) and Attorney General Josh Stein (D) will face off in the general election come November.

According to election results, Stein received nearly 500,000 votes. Meantime, Robinson got about 660,000 votes.

The totals are interesting, all together Robinson got almost as many votes as the total number of Democratic voters, which could signal trouble for Stein come November. Stein said he wasn't worried.

"It was absolutely to be expected that there would be a lot more republican voters because they had a competitive presidential primary and there were congressional races across the state that there were a lot of republicans running. So, I'm not really bothered by that fact," explained Stein.

Both Robinson and Stein didn't waste time attacking each other and explaining why they were the better candidates.

"I have an opponent that doesn't understand what it's like to be at work and have the boss man come and take you to a room and sit you down and tell you, 'We're moving this plant to Mexico and there's nothing you can do about it and now you have to go find another job,' I know the sting of the bad federal policy that causes that," said Robinson.

"They can elect someone who has spent his entire career fighting for the people of this state and delivering whether it's tackling the opioid crisis, or eliminating the largest backlog of untested rape kits in the country, or protecting kids from child sex abuse or the voters could elect Mark Robinson, his entire resume is waging on culture wars that kill jobs," said Stein.

Stein said leading up to the November, he will be talking to voters across the state.

WFMY News 2 spoke to Robinson's campaign team Wednesday. They weren't able to accommodate a fresh interview because of scheduling issues. Therefore, a piece of Robinson's victory speech is quoted within this article.
