North Carolina US House District 6: Meet the Candidates

The 6th congressional district will have a new representative.

NORTH CAROLINA, USA — The race for the U.S. House of Representatives seat for District 6 is essentially a one-person race, as Republican candidate Addison McDowell is running against Kevin E. Hayes of the Consitution Party.

The 6th district makes up parts of Guilford and Forsyth Counties, as well as all of Davidson and Davie Counties. Democrat Kathy Manning is the current representative for District 6, though she chose not to run for re-election after redistricting changed the congressional map.

Addison McDowell

Running for office for the first time, 30-year-old Addison McDowell was born and raised in Davidson County. He attended North Davidson High School before earning an undergraduate degree from UNC-Charlotte.

McDowell previously worked under United States Senator Tedd Budd as a constituent liaison. He narrowly won the Republican primary in March over Mark Walker, who has since joined the prediential campaign of Donald Trump.

According to his campaign website, McDowell is running on a platform that emphasizes better securing the US-Mexico border, protecting 2nd Amendment rights and championing pro-life legislation to Congress.

McDowell has earned the endorsement of former President Donald Trump, who is running as the Republican candidate for United States President in 2024.

Kevin E. Hayes

The southern regional director of the Constitution Party, Kevin E. Hayes grew up in eastern North Carolina in Wayne and Duplin counties. Hayes previously ran for Congress in both 2020 and 2018.

Hayes finished with 1.2% of the vote in the 2020 race for the United States senate which Thom Tillis ultimately won. In 2018, he received 2.3% of the vote for North Carolina House of Representatives District 4.

According to his website, Hayes works in the Charlotte area and owns a small information technology business. He is a member of Unity Baptist Church in Mt. Olive and is also the Vice-Chairman of The Constitution Party of North Carolina.
