What you should know about the District 6 Congressional Race

In the last 8 years there have been 4 different Congressional maps with huge changes in District 6.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — In the last eight years, we’ve had four different Congressional maps with huge changes seen in District 6.

Now, the district includes parts of Guilford, Forsyth, and Cabarrus counties and all of Davie, Davidson and Rowan counties.

Currently, District 6 is represented by Democrat Kathy Manning, but she's not running for reelection. Her reasoning for this is that she feels the redrawing of congressional districts was done to lean more Republican.

No Democrat is running in this race at all. But 6 Republicans are.

Let's learn a little more about them.

Christian Castelli ran against Kathy Manning in the last election and took 45% of the vote.

Mary Ann Contogiannis is a Greensboro plastic surgeon who is involved in several community-wide organizations and non-profits.

Bo Hines played football at NC State before transferring to Yale to pursue a political science degree. He also went to law school at Wake Forest School of Law.

Addison McDowell worked for Senator Ted Budd when he was still in the House of Representatives serving the Triad.

Jay Wagner is the former mayor of High Point.

Mark Walker is a pastor who used to represent District 6 when it had different boundaries.

We spoke to Political Science Professor Jason Husser and Thom Little about the Primary Race for District 6.

"Next week is the 6th district race. I think it's wide open. I don’t think anyone has an idea who's going to win," said Little.

Husser added, "It's possible you could see a runoff in this. The thing to know about primary elections is that they are unpredictable."

Whoever wins District 6, heads to Washington.

If no candidate wins more than 30% plus one vote in any race - there could be a 2nd primary on May 14.
