NC District 6 candidates: Who are they and where do they stand on big issues?

The Good Morning Show asked where they stand on top issues in the Triad ahead of the March 5 primary.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — For the 2024 election, the Congressional maps are different than last time around. That means part of Greensboro will be represented by new people in DC.

Currently, District 6 is represented by Democrat Kathy Manning, but she is not running again, saying the district was redrawn to lean toward Republicans. No Democrat is running in the race, so it comes down to the March Republican primary with six candidates.

  • Christian Castelli ran against Manning in the last election and took 45% of the vote.
  • Mary Ann Contogiannis is a Greensboro plastic surgeon who is involved in several community-wide organizations and non-profits.
  • Bo Hines played football at NC State before transferring to Yale to pursue a political science degree. He also went to law school at Wake Forest School of Law.
  • Addison McDowell worked for Senator Ted Budd when he was still in the House of Representatives serving the Triad.
  • Jay Wagner is the former mayor of High Point.
  • Mark Walker is a pastor who used to represent District 6 when it had different boundaries.

Five of the six candidates were at a taping of Triad Today, which airs on WFMY News 2+. Hines declined the interview request. While the candidates were there, the Good Morning Show’s Ben Briscoe interviewed them all about the top issues for people in the Triad. All week long we’ll be airing their answers on The Good Morning Show, and sharing them in this web story. To be fair, we kept their answers in alphabetical order.
