WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Campaigning in support of Democratic presidential nominee Vice President Kamala Harris, First Lady Jill Biden spoke at an event in Winston-Salem on Monday, one day before Election Day.
Biden implored Harris supporters to do whatever they can in the final day of the election to gather more support for the Vice President. She also warned that a win by Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump would lead to more "chaos and division" in the United States.
“With one day left, I know you’re weary and I know you’re tired …" Biden told Harris supporters. "I need you to find the strength to keep on going. I want you to remember 2016, the morning after the election, when we woke up to find out we had fallen short. Remember that feeling? Let it sustain you, invigorate you, keep you going … We can’t let that happen again."
Biden said that as she's gotten to know Harris over the past several years, it has become clear that the Vice President is her mother's daughter. Harris' mother — Shyamala Gopalan —was a biomedical scientist and someone Biden said had "high expectations" from her daughter.
"That was the biggest lesson Kamala’s mother taught her: Within Kamala was the power to create change," Biden said. "It started with her. And that’s why Kamala is the strong, decisive leader she is today. The president we all deserve."
Harris campaigned in Pennsylvania on Monday, while Trump held a campaign event in Raleigh.
