GREENSBORO, N.C. — It may feel like spring right now, but it's about to feel like winter again. The WFMY News 2 Weather Team is forecasting a strong cold front to move through our area on Wednesday evening. This will be the leading edge to much colder air, and some gusty winds too. It's a WFMY News 2 Weather Impact Alert.
When does it get cold?
We are tracking a cold front that will arrive on Wednesday evening. It will hit our Foothill counties between 6-8pm, move through the Triad between 8-10pm, and through the eastern Piedmont from 10pm-Midnight.
What you'll notice is that our warmth will be swept away. Temperatures will be in the 60s through the evening, but drop quickly once the front moves in. We'll go from 60s to 40s very quickly, then getting into the 30s by Thursday morning.
All told, it will be about a 30 degree temperature drop with this cold front.
Gusty Winds Will Happen Too
As the cold front rolls through, our air will go from calm to windy in just a quick moment. Wind gusts will whip up to 30-35 mph with isolated 40 mph gusts.
These wind gusts are most likely during the 6pm to 12am timeframe, although it will stay breezy overnight through Thursday morning.
During the day Thursday and Friday the winds will return. They'll be cold winter winds around 20-30 mph at times. This is common with this kind of weather pattern in the winter season.
Find Those Warmer Clothes
It's a good idea to find those hats, gloves, and winter jackets. We'll be dropping into the 30s for Thursday morning and wind chills will be in the 20s for Friday morning.
This blast of winter air isn't unusual for November. It's surprising we haven't had much of it to this point.
Thursday and Friday will be cold all day long with temperatures in the 40s most of time and stiff wind.
