Winston-Salem family home up in flames following improper disposal of fireworks

The fire department says two adults, three children, and one dog are now without a home.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A Winston-Salem family's home was destroyed by a fire Saturday night because fireworks were not thrown away correctly, according to the fire department

The department said two adults, three children, and one dog are displaced, and the cause of the fire was due to improper disposal of fireworks.

The department posted a video to social media showing firefighters spraying water onto flames as high as the roof on the 3800 block of Thornaby Circle.

The video is time stamped from 11:44 p.m. Saturday night.

WFMY News 2 spoke to neighbors who said the community is usually quiet, but the night of the fire Thornaby Circle erupted in chaos.

"I came out and that's when I discovered that there were lots of fire trucks and ambulance and everything. I was pretty shocked that happened," neighbor Cynthia Frasier shared.

WSFD told us no one was hurt and the family is getting help from the Red Cross.
