NORTH CAROLINA, USA — Wildfires have erupted in parts of North Carolina and parts of Virginia. The wildfire is drawing firefighters from all over.
From the firefighting efforts to the drought creating fuel for the flames, help is coming from across the state to help put out the fires.
For days, firefighters just north of here said they've been stretched to the limits as they work to contain a wildfire.
The wildfires are spreading quickly and are just 10% contained.
It's an alarming scene across the Virginia border from Stokes County to Patrick County firefighters are working to contain a fire that continues to spread.
Chaplain Patrick County Volunteer Fire Dept. James Clifton said, "they told us to go up this one road with leaf blowers, and we're blowing sticks and stones off the road to try and make a fire line."
For hours, Chaplain Clifton said he and his team were at the bottom of hills trying to keep the flames away from homes and people.
"When we got to the very bottom, we see that the fire is already across the creek,” Chaplain Clifton continued. "So, the guys worked so hard and some of them worked all day."
This is just one of many efforts to put out fires in the area. Three Summerfield firefighters are in western North Carolina right now helping in the efforts to put out fires there. Their fire chief said they'll be there until the end of the week.
Firefighters warn those of the dangers and drought conditions.
“It might be best not to burn leaves or anything like that because the ground is so dry. It is not supposed to rain until Friday.”
So far, firefighters in Patrick County said they've been able to protect every house that's been threatened.
