CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The UNC-Chapel Hill football coach addressed a deadly DWI crash investigation that police said involved three of his players and killed a UNC student from Greensboro.
Chapel Hill police charged Zachary Rice, Travis Shaw, and Malachi Hamrick with misdemeanors.
Police charged Rice with speeding. He wasn't driving the car Grimsley alum Mary Rotunda died in after the crash in January.
The other two players face underage drinking charges.
On Monday, UNC Head Football Coach Mack Brown said he is disappointed whenever anyone on his roster is accused of doing something illegal.
"We've stayed out of it. It's not our place. We'll let the legal process take its course. What we'll do is they'll have disciplinary action within our program," Coach Brown said.
Coach Brown said all three players would participate in spring practice.
Police charged 10 people total in this deadly crash. The three players and 7 others.
Police charged 20-year-old Flemeeja Beatrice Brewer, of Greensboro, with DWI and death by vehicle. We're told she was the driver of the car Rotunda was in.
Investigators said alcohol contributed to the crash.
