All injured students home from hospital after school bus crash

Seven students were hurt in the crash. Six of them went to UNC Hospital. As of Monday morning, all of them are home and recovering.

ALAMANCE COUNTY, N.C. — All children injured in a school bus crash in Graham are now home from the hospital, Alamance-Burlington Schools officials said.

The seventh child who was hurt in the crash went home Monday morning. Two others went home Sunday evening.

The crash happened on Highway 87 last Thursday morning. Troopers said a school bus carrying 18 B. Everett Jordan students veered off the roadway, hit a concrete culvert, and crashed into a building.

Seven students were injured and six of them went to UNC Hospital.

Nolan Reid was one of the students hurt in the crash. His mother said he had a broken jaw.

Troopers charged the bus driver, 75-year-old Ronald Farrow, with failure to maintain his lane.

Farrow said he believes his back right tire blew out, which caused him to veer off the roadway. Highway Patrol hasn't been able to confirm that and is still investigating the cause of the crash.

"It just happened so quick, you know, and there I was down in that ditch, going down across that field there, and kids was hooping and hollering," Farrow said.

Farrow has been driving for the district since 2010. He said in his time as a bus driver, nothing like this has ever happened.

ABSS said it will continue to provide support to the students who were injured until they can return to class.
