COLFAX, N.C. — As the tragic murder of Sgt. Philip Dale Nix has garnered attention across the state of North Carolina, Sheetz has implemented a new security measure to ensure that something like this doesn't happen again.
Sergeant Philip Dale Nix was off duty Saturday afternoon when he saw a crime in progress, tried to stop it, and was shot at the Sheetz on Sandy Ridge Road in Colfax. Coincidently, another off-duty officer and a Guilford County paramedic were on the scene. They rushed to help Sgt. Nix, but he later died at the hospital.
The Public Relations manager Nick Ruffner said since the murder, they will provide additional security to the Colfax location and any location in need of support.
"We are heartbroken by the incident that took the life of Sergeant Philip Dale Nix, a brave and heroic law enforcement officer. Sgt. Nix served more than 23 years with the Greensboro Police Department and was active in his community.
The safety of our customers and employees is a top priority and we are continually assessing which stores need additional support. Sheetz has implemented additional security measures at Greensboro store locations including placing security guards in the Colfax store and any other locations that need additional support. We are also meeting weekly with the Greensboro Police Department.
Sheetz’s advanced security systems cover nearly every area of our stores and parking lot. We also have a security operations center that is staffed 24/7 to help address any issues that arise at our store locations. Both measures were essential in helping police make an arrest after last Saturday’s incident.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Sergeant Nix’s family, friends, and the Greensboro Police Department during this tragic time."
